Tutorial 4

Using Vizx3D to morph a man into a Raptor

Part 3

(Go back to Part 1.... Part 2)

Let's do the nails for this guy...feet first.

Put into Front view, and select the ankle section , scale it down after you have moved the CRS into its middle.

The next step is going to be hard.

Select the edges of the feet like in the lower foot in the figure at right:======>

You Rotate this edge so that the remaining edges form a pyramid like in the upper foot at right .

Then select the one vertex between the pyramids and Delete it.

Do it 3 times in all, for every 3 leap vertices.

So, now , where there was a hexagonal section tube, there remains 3 pyramidal claws.

In this figure at left, you have just rotated an edge (the one surrounded by the yellow ellipse) by hitting the "Rotate Edge" button (surrounded by yellow ellipse)

Then you see one of the vertex being selected , (blue curved arrow) and ready to be deleted (button "Delete adjacent faces" in blue circle)

In the figure at right, you see the lower foot just cut out , with 3 open pyramid spikes.

The upper foot has been sewn up (the gaps have been filled) by using button "Build face" (the green triangle) in the vertical Edit MIFS toolbar.

You do the same for the hands (the small upper claws) by deleting a few faces in the man's hand, then build faces to fill gaps.

Seen from above, your Raptor should look like this.

You then select the arms again and rotate them so they point forward.

As a final touch, select the triangles on the right and left side of the head and using the button "Create vertex", subdivide the faces like in the figure at left.

Why ? so you can use the small triangle to map a texture with an eye on it !

So here it is !
