Tutorial 4

...and Man turned into Raptor...

part 2

(go back to part 1)

Let's take care of the Head...

First bend the head forward. By now, you know the tune : you have to select the faces like in the figure at left, then move their CRS to the base of the neck. Then uncheck Translate Center (Rot-Scale) and rotate using Ctrol key in a side view.

Now the head is bent forward...

Extrude a few section. Select the sections (use Shift-Rectangle Drag), place their CRS in the middle, and bend the necks to let it have a gracious curve.

Select each section, rotate or translate them at your liking.

Select the last section, and let's position it as the noozzle (nuzzle ?).

This is what you approximately should have. It is a classic side view from the right. Notice the small arms, the knee bend, the forward looking head.

Seen from above, this should be like the figure at right.

Move vertices, or rather, whole sections and scale them so the shape look natural.

Let's tackle the jaw: select the triangles like at left. you may have to rotate a couple of edges, or nudge some vertices to get it right.

Hit delete (with the triangles selected) and presto : the jaw is opened.

Next thing, you select the faces that make up the front of the lower jaw, and move it back a little, so as to get the figure at right. Also push it a bit lower so that it's agape.

Now, let's sew back the mouth, because it ain't pretty to see the vacuum that's inside the Raptor.

Select vertices 3 by 3 , and hit the button "Create Face" in the floating Toolbar of the IFS Editor (that's the one with just a green triangle)

Once the mouth is completed, get into Front view, and lower the vertices at the top of the head to make the ridges of the eyebrows stand out. You may also raise the vertices over the eyes to enhance the mean look of the animal.
